About Me
Hello, I’m Teddianne.
As a therapist who goes to therapy, I can speak from the heart when I talk about the vulnerability and courage it takes to reach out for help.
Almost a decade ago I found myself pulled to British Columbia’s breathtaking natural landscapes as a sanctuary for my own personal journey of holistic healing and growth. Along this journey, I’ve discovered within myself, an unyielding desire to help others navigate their way to a more intentional and meaningful life as well.
As your therapist, I prioritize nurturing strong therapeutic bonds while recognizing the significance of trust, transparency and authenticity within that relationship. I am dedicated to nurturing your healing and growth, and to restore hope that you can lead the fulfilling life you desire and deserve.
My invitation to you in starting this therapeutic journey is to come just as you are.
I will meet you there and provide a safe, non-judgemental, and respectful space to feel authentically heard, seen, and valued.
Meaningful change is possible.
I would be honoured to start this journey with you…

The importance of play
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” ~ Fred Rogers
Expressive Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses art, music, sand play and other creative activities to help children express emotions, process experiences, and develop coping skills. Unlike traditional talk therapy, play therapy recognizes that children often communicate their thoughts and feelings more naturally through play.
Sand Tray Therapy
A gentle, creative way for children
to explore and heal
What is Sand Tray Therapy?
Sand Tray Therapy is a gentle, expressive therapeutic approach that allows children to explore their inner world by creating scenes or “stories” using miniature figures, symbolic objects, and natural materials in a tray of sand. It offers a safe, contained way for children to express and make sense of difficult experiences such as grief, loss, or major life changes at their own pace and in a way that feels right for them.
Instead of relying solely on words, children are invited to let their hands and imagination do the talking. What unfolds in the tray often gives voice to big emotions, life experiences, or inner struggles. The therapist offers a calm, supportive presence, always honouring the symbolic language that emerges.
What are the benefits?
Speaks when words are difficult: Sometimes it’s hard to put feelings into words—especially for children who’ve experienced trauma. Sand tray provides a natural, non-verbal way for them to express what’s hard to say out loud.
Helps process grief, loss, and trauma: Sand tray offers a safe and creative space for children to express and work through painful or overwhelming experiences. Whether they’re navigating grief, a major change, or trauma, the process can bring comfort, clarity, and a sense of control.
Promotes healing through symbolic play: For children, play is a natural way of making sense of the world. Sand tray allows them to “play out” their struggles in a symbolic and supported way. Through this, they often discover inner strength, creativity, and new perspectives.
Encourages self-expression and insight: In the worlds they build, children often uncover new ways of understanding their experiences—along with personal wisdom, resilience, and a growing sense of who they are. This process helps nurture self-esteem, confidence, and trust in their own voice.
Supports emotional regulation: The sensory experience of touching and shaping sand helps settle big emotions. The creative process is calming and grounding, offering children a way to feel more centered and regulated in their bodies and minds.

The healing nature of nature
“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.”
~ John Burroughs
Do you ever garden when feeling anxious?
What about planning a weekend hike, or simply a walk around the block
to relieve stress after a long week?
You’re not imagining that time in nature helps you feel better.
Nature Therapy also makes it easy to practice mindfulness – often without even knowing it. Mindfulness centers on being fully present in the moment. It is a way of noticing what’s happening right now, without judgment or getting wrapped up in thoughts about the past or the future.
This is where real healing begins.
Mind
“The mind is everything. What you think you become.” ~ Buddha
What consumes your mind controls your life. We know and have evidence that our beliefs have physiological effects on our bodies. We also have evidence that changing our brains by using cognitive therapies can improve our overall sense of well-being. Integrating neuroscience with other somatic and emotional interventions can be the cornerstone of true well-being.
Body
“Our bodies contain our histories – every chapter, line, and verse of every event and relationship in our lives.” ~ Caroline Myss
The body is the starting point to achieve meaningful healing. Incorporating breathwork and mindfulness can have such a positive effect on our overall physical well-being. Therapy that cultivates an awareness of bodily sensations, that teaches us how to feel safe in our bodies, while exploring out thoughts and emotions is where authentic healing lives.
Spirit
“Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness, will we discover the infinite power of our light.” ~ Brene Brown
Just as a seed, when nurtured with care and attention, transforms into a vibrant and growing organism, so too can our mental and emotional health thrive when we tend to all three parts with love and compassion. Like that seed, planted in fertile soil, our journey begins with an intention to cultivate growth, self-love and acceptance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during the 15-minute consultation?
You can think of our consult as a no-obligation meet and greet. You can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. We can discuss what’s bringing you to therapy along with any hopes or concerns for starting the process. I am also happy to answer any questions you have about me and
my practice.
How does an In-Person Therapy Session work?
In-person sessions are held at my office at 517 Wentworth Street, Nanaimo, BC. Meeting in person allows us to connect in a shared space, which many people find grounding and supportive. For children and youth, being together in the room often makes it easier to engage through movement, play, and creative expression. For adults, in-person therapy can offer a deeper sense of presence and connection, without the distractions that sometimes come with being online. If you are unsure whether in-person or virtual sessions are the right fit, I’m happy to explore both options with you.
How does a Telehealth Therapy Session work?
Virtual therapy is the same as in-person therapy, the only difference is that we meet online. This often makes it easier since it cuts out travel time and you can do it from the comfort of your own home. For online sessions, you’ll be emailed a link to our video session after booking. All you need is a quiet, private space, an up-to-date browser and a good internet connection.
What can I expect from our first session?
After our Initial Consultation, I will send you an Intake and Consent form to complete ahead of time. At the start of our session, we’ll go over the limits of privacy and confidentiality, and I can answer any questions you might have about me, my approach or therapy in general.
Through these early conversations, I’ll be asking more about you to get a sense of who you are, your presenting symptoms and concerns, relevant history and background, as well as your current context and general lifestyle practices that we know impact everyone’s mental health — things like
eating, sleeping, exercise and social supports. We’ll also talk about what you hope to get out of this experience and plan for how I can best support you in reaching your therapeutic goals.
How long will I need to go to therapy?
This really depends on what you’d like to work on or receive support with. Some clients will come for just a few sessions, whereas others are looking for more ongoing support. We can talk about what would be a good fit for you when we’re first getting started.
Do you direct bill?
Sea to Sky does not offer direct billing at this time. Alternatively, Teddianne will provide you with a receipt for service that can be easily submitted to your insurance plan for reimbursement. Teddianne encourages each client to contact their insurance plan provider to find out what is specifically covered under their benefits. Please check with your individual insurance provider to confirm your coverage.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
If finances are a barrier to access counselling, please reach out and share your circumstance as there may be sliding scale options available to you.
What types of payment do you accept?
E-transfer, cheque or cash are accepted methods of payment.
What is Sea to Sky’s Cancellation Policy?
Please provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for appointment cancellation or rescheduling, or you will be subject to a late cancellation fee. If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment without prior notice, you will be charged in full for the missed session.
We understand that emergencies and unexpected situations can arise, resulting in last-minute cancellations or no-shows. If this occurs, please contact our office as soon as possible to discuss the situation and any possible exceptions.
What is Sea to Sky’s Confidentiality Policy?
What happens in counselling stays in counselling. However, there a couple of exceptions. If you are at risk to self or to others, or risk to a child or elder, confidentiality may need to be addressed to keep everyone safe.
